Abstract (EN)

Investigation of Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop in Pipes Having Longitudinal Vortex Generators Inside In this study, heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of laminar and turbulent flow through pipes having longitudinal vortex generators are investigated experimentally. The flow was hidrodinamically fully developed and thermally developing. The experiments were performed for Re numbers ranging 200 - 40000 and 100°C±1 constant surface boundary condition was sustained. The experimental parameters used were Re number, vortex generators angle, and vortex generators position. From experimentally measured data, average Number and friction factor / were computed. Furthermore, entropy and uncertainty analysis were performed. The experimental results show that for all vortex generator angles and positions, the heat transfer was enhanced but at the same time the friction factor was increased. For laminar flow, the best heat transfer result was obtained for vortex generator angle at 30° where the vortex generator was positioned against incoming flow. For this case heat transfer increased almost 400% comparing with the straight pipe results, whereas the pressure drop increase was 600% comparing with straight pipe results. For turbulent flow, the best heat transfer result was obtained for vortex generator angle at 45° where the vortex generator was position against incoming flow. For this case heat transfer increased almost 160% comparing with the straight pipe results, whereas the pressure drop increase was 400% comparing with straight pipe results.
