Comparison of flora diversity by grouping the forest stand type maps: A case study in Trabzon province

Abstract (EN)

In this study which was carried out within the borders of the Trabzon province, forest management plan stand maps and flora data for the whole city were used and Shannon and Simpson vegetative diversity indices were calculated for nineteen classes created according to land cover, main forest functions, protected areas and administrative boundaries. During the analysis, ArcMap 10.4TM was used and the result table was transferred to the Past program and vegetative diversity was calculated. In addition to the results, non-wood forest vegetative diversity is higher then forest area. According to the Simpson diversity index, the highest value was calculated as 0,9991 in the bare lands, and according to the Shannon index, the highest value was 7,079 in the same land cover. It is once again revealed how important the bare lands for biodiversity are. When forest areas are evaluated within themselves, mixed forests have the highest vegetative diversity and coniferous forests have the lowest. Although protected areas seem low in terms of vegetative diversity, they should also be evaluated in terms of the source value for their declaration. Both indices gave parallel results with each other. However, Shannon index results make it easier to compare between classes.
