Abstract (EN)

God created humans in pairs, like other beings, and, unlike animals, He gave humans free will and held them responsible for divine commands. The Quran does not consider men superior to women in this responsibility, but shows them as complementary to each other, and states that superiority is only in piety. The study attempts to address the male Imagination in Mawdudi's perspective in the commentary titled "Tafhim al-Qur'an" by Abu'l A'la Mawdudi (d. 1903-1979), who is considered to be on a line between modern and traditional, and who has maintained his influence on this issue with his way of thinking and stance during and after his lifetime. The study focuses on the male phenomenon and the meanings Mawdudi attributes to this concept. It draws attention to the roles of mutual complementarity and support by using the metaphor of women and men being each other's "clothes". In order to understand the study more clearly, general information about Mawdudi's life, scientific personality, works and "Tafhim al-Qur'an" which is the source of the study was examined. The basic finding of this study is that the quality of men being "kavvam" over women in the Qur'an is not a matter of loss of rights or absolute superiority between the sexes, but on the contrary, it stems from the heavy responsibilities imposed on men. As a result, in this study, the phenomenon of men and the quality of "kavvam" and the reasons underlying this quality and the responsibilities it brings to men were discussed, especially in the light of Mawdudi's "Tafhim al-Qur'an" Commentary and the basic exegetical sources of Islamic thought, and in this context, Mawdudi's way of interpreting the relevant verses and the responsibilities he attributed to men were tried to be presented in an original way.
