The use of architecture as propaganda tool: The example of La Turquıe Kemalıste Magazine

Architectural practice is one of the areas of knowledge that governments have used to provide legitimacy throughout history. The propaganda of the legitimacy provided by the rulers was also made through architecture. Thanks to this relationship, ideological architecture, which has turned into one of the propaganda methods of the modern world, has been shaped according to the definitions mentioned in the section titled "The Emergence and Definition of the Concept of Propaganda". Architecture has been used as a propaganda tool in Turkey as well as in the West. The architecture, which is examined within the scope of the study, is the transformation of the ideals of the government into the space. In that period, the tool used as a propaganda tool for the promotion of the country to the West in the context of modernization was La Turquie Kemaliste Magazine. The main purpose of the study is; how the magazine used architecture as a propaganda tool while promoting the modern face of the republic. In this study, the use of architecture in the context of propaganda has been examined based on examples from history. It is investigated how the early period Turkish Republic government made a modernization propaganda especially through the city of Ankara with architecture. In the first part of the study, the theoretical background of the concept of propaganda and its relationship with disciplines such as art and architecture are discussed. In the second part, all issues of La Turquie Kemaliste Magazine were scanned; The relationship between propaganda and architecture has been studied in the context of early republican Turkey architecture. The period government's concern to persuade the west and to prove itself in the context of modernity chose architecture as the most useful propaganda tool for La Turquie Kemaliste Magazine.
