Abstract (EN)

Fictional architecture creates its own reality in its unique medium, and it refers to a visualization of space that exists in a medium that does not supposedly produce concrete architectural space. Representations of those imaginary spaces have mostly focused on environments related to virtual reality. In this manner, the study suggests that two dimensional flat surfaces are the basis medium of virtual environments because the representation of imaginary space has been discussed through architectural representations on drawings, which usually provides the information to build and read the space through its elements. The study suggests a thematic visual content analysis focusing on imaginary spaces created in the medium genre of anime, with the case of respected author and director Hayao Miyazaki. Creating a framework for approaches to architectural representations, the study investigates the possibility of reading the imaginary spaces through concepts of metalepsis, defamiliarization, phantasmagoria, and transparency. Thus, it is aimed to explore possible interconnections and juxtaposes of metaphors selected from discussions of architectural representations in order to answer the question of how it is possible to explore those notions by looking at the drawn representations of architectural spaces in fantasy environments focusion on the medium genre of anime with the purpose of investigating the architectural space created in flat surfaces medium of two dimensional drawings
