Abstract (EN)

Mobbing, which continues today as it did in the past, is a phenomenon that lowers profitability and efficiency for all institutions, has very serious repercussions if action is not taken, and can affect everyone who is exposed it, can drive workers to burnout and organizational silence. The aim of this study, which examines the effects of mobbing on burnout and organizational silence, is to contribute to the integrity of the study in the literature by examining the effects of mobbing in the education sector on the perceptions of burnout and organizational silence on individuals working in secondary education institutions. Workers (n=392) from a total of 28 secondary education institutions in the districts of Kartepe, İzmit, Derince, and Başiskele in the province of Kocaeli province were chosen as the sample for this study, which looked at the impacts of mobbing. The questionnaire form utilized for data collection included the Maslach Burnout Scale, the Workplace Bullying Scale, and the Organizational Silence Scale. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS 18. The following tests were carried out: a normality test, reliability and factor analyses for the scales, regression analyses to ascertain whether mobbing influences organizational silence and burnout, and correlation analyses to ascertain the strength and direction of correlations between variables. Overall, a moderate and positive association was found between the variables as a consequence of the analysis. However, it was shown that the only sub-dimensions of burnout that protective quiet, one of the sub-dimensions of organizational silence, has a low and medium level positive and significant association with are depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment. Moreover, it was found that the lack of personal accomplishment, one of the burnout sub-dimensions, only had a low level positive link and a strong positive relationship with the organizational silence sub dimensions. According to the results of the research, mobbing was found to have a moderate effect on burnout and organizational silence. On the other hand, it was discovered that the sub-dimension of burnout known as loss of personal accomplishment was not significantly impacted by either of the sub-dimensions of mobbing—personal humiliation/bullying or harassment/bullying at work. In contrast, one of the sub-dimensions of organizational quiet called protective silence is significantly impacted only by personal humiliation/bullying, which is one of the sub-dimensions of mobbing. The study is anticipated to make a significant contribution to the body of literature by examining the linkages between organizational silence, burnout, and mobbing in secondary education institutions for the first time.
