Özet (EN)
This thesis investigates the impact of the environmental improvement activities conducted in the Çapakçur Micro Basin, as part of the Murat River Basin Rehabilitation Project, on climate change and carbon sink capacity. The project has applied various field studies and rehabilitation techniques with the aim of improving ecosystem health and reducing carbon emissions. This study plays a crucial role in restoring the ecological balance of the basin and focuses on the contribution of these interventions to the fight against climate change. The Çapakçur Micro Basin is an area characterized by intense agricultural activities and a mixture of land use types. Therefore, the impact of the rehabilitation activities on both ecosystem health and carbon sink capacity is vital in the fight against climate change. The field studies involved in the project aim to address environmental objectives such as water conservation, soil erosion prevention, and enhancement of biodiversity. An important aspect of the work is the enhancement of the basin's carbon sink capacity. Carbon sinks are natural systems that absorb and store atmospheric carbon dioxide, and increasing this capacity plays a critical role in combating climate change. This thesis thoroughly examines the effects of the environmental improvement activities on increasing carbon sink capacity, as well as the methods used in the process. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on interventions such as soil and water management, afforestation efforts, and the increase of biodiversity, and how these have strengthened the carbon storage capacity in the region. In conclusion, this thesis presents how the rehabilitation activities carried out in the Murat River Basin contribute to regional efforts in combating climate change and how they enhance the carbon sink capacity of the Çapakçur Micro Basin. The study highlights the importance of such projects in sustainable environmental management and provides findings that can serve as a guide in the development of regional strategies to mitigate climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
