The activities of Mustafa Reşit Tarakçıoğlu at the TGNA

The purpose of this study is to examine the long parliamentary career of a former Trabzon MP Mustafa Reşit Tarakçıoğlu. This thesis covers the period between 1946 and 1960 when Tarakçıoğlu served as a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th sessions. The primary sources utilized in this study include the minutes of the TGNA, Prime Ministry Archives documents, national and local newspapers in addition to the books authored by Tarakçıoğlu and various books and articles written about the MP. The thesis is structured in two parts after the introduction. In the introduction the thesis subject is introduced with the addition of a short biography of Tarakçıoğlu. The first part involves the parliamentary activities of Tarakçıoğlu as a MP from the Republican People's Party whereas the second part covers his parliamentary career as a Democrat Party MP. The thorough investigation of the subject revealed that Tarakçıoğlu was particularly active in the issues related to education. His other parliamentary activities were concentrated on the subjects such as agriculture, social services and administrative organization. All in all, his parliamentary activities were not limited to these subjects; he was actively involved in several parliamentary committees on other issues where he served in accordance with his personal thoughts and feelings.
