Megaphic in the context of mutesâbih verses

This study determines the metaphorical expressions in the mutashabih verses and deals with the effect of these expressions on the understanding of the verses. In the first part of the study, which consists of four parts, the terminology of the science of rhetoric and the concept of metaphor are given. In the second part, the views adopted by Islamic scholars about the existence of metaphor in the Qur'an and the ongoing debates in this field are discussed. In the third chapter, after drawing a general framework on the concepts of mutashabih verses and ta'wil, the debates on the understanding of mutashabih verses are mentioned, and in this context, the approaches of tawwiz, ta'wil and proof adopted by the Islamic scholars are explained. In the last part, the metaphorical expressions in the mutashabih verses are determined and their effects on the understanding of the verses are revealed.
