Muzaffer İzgü's children's books published between 1980-1990 examination of root values education

The process of children's acquaintance with books begins with their learning to read. Since their minds are open to learning, they can acquire some discourses, attitudes, behaviors and values from the books they read. This research was carried out to examine Muzaffer İzgü's works in the field of children's literature in terms of root values education. The study group consists of twenty children's books published by Muzaffer İzgü in the field of children's literature between 1980-1990. The values covered in the books were determined and recorded. In accordance with the purpose of the study, case study method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In the process of analyzing qualitative data, descriptive analysis method was used. The works were evaluated and examined in terms of containing the root values of justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and benevolence in the 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum and according to the attitudes and behaviors related to the values. In the determination of the values, before examining all the books, the researcher's determinations were presented to the expert opinions through certain texts selected from the books. The processing frequency of the ten root values in the books has been determined. Separate tables were created for each value and the data obtained were evaluated. These evaluations are presented with direct citations. As a result of the research, 1103 statements reflecting the root values were recorded in the books. While the root values that appeared the most in the books were "love", "self-control" and "benevolence", the least determined root values were "respect" and "patriotism". In the study, it was stated that the books could be used within the scope of values education; However, it has been concluded that this value cannot be taught effectively, especially since the value of patriotism is not given enough space.
