Abstract (EN)
Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the remineralization effect of nanosilver fluoride, which is an experimental formulation, comparable with silver diamine fluoride and sodium fluoride varnish. Materials-Methods: 45 sound human third molar teeth were sectioned buccolingual and mesiodistal direction and 180 specimens were gained. The initial microhardness values of the specimens were measured and specimens were divided into 4 groups [Group NGF (nano silver fluoride), Group GDF (silver diamine fluoride), Group FV (sodium fluoride varnish), Group Control (Deiyonize water)] which had 45 enamel specimens each group. All specimens were placed in demineralization solution for 96 hours to produce artificial carious lesions and after demineralization process, the microhardness values of the specimens were recorded. Remineralization agents were applied according to manufacturers' instructions and all specimens were stored in a moist environment at 37°C for 24 hours. Specimens were subjected to a pH-cycling model and immersed in demineralizing solution for 3 hours, and in a remineralizing solution for 21 hours for 5 days. In the last two days, the specimens were maintained in remineralizing solution only. The microhardness values of specimens were measured after the pH-cycling regime. The microhardness values of specimens were compared before treatment, after demineralization and after remineralization. In additon, 4 specimens from each group, sound enamel and demineralized enamel were evaluated with scanning electron microscope to compare morphological changes occurring on the surface. All data were analyzed statistically. Results: All of the remineralization materials were found to increase the microhardness of demineralized specimens at a statistically significant level. When the microhardness values between the groups were compared; the highest microhardness surface values were detected in, respectively, FV>GDF>NGF>Control. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, all the remineralization materials used were found to have a significant remineralization effect on artificial enamel caries lesions. However nano silver fluoride was not found to be effective as sodium fluoride varnish and silver diamine fluoride. Key Words: Nano Silver Fluoride, Silver Diamine Fluoride, Fluoride Varnish, Artificial Caries, Remineralization
