Nesîb Dede's Dîvân Glossory [Concordance and functional glossory]

There have been many literary works from Classical Turkish literature which has a six-century history and tradition. There is a need to make sense of the texts by considering the cultural tradition of the period the work was written to understand these works. Interpretation of the vocabulary involved in texts considering its context would help to demonstrate poets' imagination and world of thoughts, the richness of language adding to vocabulary, and understanding the texts. The present study addressed Contextual and Functional Dictionary of Nesîb Dede's Dîvân to explain vocabulary in the context. This study was grounded on the doctorate study titled "Nesîb Dede's Life, His Works and the Critical Text of His Divan" prepared by Ahmet Selahattin HİDAYETOĞLU. The vocabulary in Nesîb Dede's Dîvân was emphasized to show how the meanings changes according to context and how words have different connotations. TEBDIZ (History and Literature Texts Contextual Index and Functional Dictionary) program which aims to reveal semantic world of Classical Turkish poetry was utilized to prepare the dictionary. Each element in the Dîvân of Nesîb Dede has been carefully examined to be interpreted in the context. Thus, it has been revealed meanings and contexts of vocabulary in the Dîvân. Our study consisted of two parts. In the first part, Nesîb Dede's life, literary identity, and Dîvân were discussed. The second part involved dictionary user guide and Nesîb Dede' Dîvân Contextual Index and Functional Dictionary.
