Nevşehir Prison (1849-1920)

In our research, XIX. century and XX. century, the situation of Nevşehir Prison is discussed. The criminal law of the Ottoman Empire, the prison system in the European states, the point of view of the Ottoman State to the prisons and the actions of the Ottoman State for the correction of the prisons, the crimes committed in Nevşehir were mentioned. Since the Nevşehir prison was built in 1849 and the last document we obtained from the State Archives regarding the Nevşehir prison was dated 1920, it was deemed appropriate to cover our thesis between 1849 and 1920. Our thesis has been prepared by utilizing various research works, especially the documents of the Ottoman Archives. Based on the archive documents, it is aimed to provide information such as the types of crimes committed by prisoners, the number of prisoners and prisoners for some years, public order problems in prisons, prison construction and repair processes.
