Abstract (EN)

With the announcement of the Tanzimat Edict, Westernization efforts began in the Ottoman Empire in every field, and as a result of these efforts, which were also reflected in the field of art, new literary genres emerged - starting with translated works. Genres such as newspapers, theater, novels, stories have entered Turkish literature, writers have both recognized Western literature and given the first examples of these genres during this period. In Turkish literature, which has the tradition of both written and oral storytelling, we first encounter modern story writing in the Tanzimat Period. The adventure of the story in Turkish literature begins with Muhayyelat written by Giritli Ali Aziz Efendi before the Tanzimat. Afterwards, it continues with Ahmet Mithat Efendi, Mehmet Celal, Nabizade Nazım and Samipaşazade Sezai. Nihan Kaya, a story and novel writer, was born on 1979 in Izmit. The author, who received her undergraduate education in English Language and Literature, continued her graduate education in the fields of psychology and comparative literature. Nihan Kaya, who also produces works in the field of psychology, has reflected her knowledge and experience on this subject to her literary works. Her first story, "Yedi Kontörlük Hayat", was published in Dergâh magazine in 2000, and her first novel, Gizli Özne, was published in 2003. Afterwards, the author, who published a story book called Çatı Katı in 2004, won the Turkish Writers' Union Short Story award with this work. In 2012, she published her second story book called Ama Sizden Değilim. Nihan Kaya, who started writing at an early age, is a writer who deeply feels the family and the environment in which she lives, thinks about the roles of men and women in society, feels sensitivity about the concept of children and reflects them in her literary works as a form of communication and expression. Nihan Kaya looks critically at the traditions of the country in which she lives, successfully explains through literature that women and children are excluded from society, forced to mold roles, oppressed under the dominance of social roles in a way that creates a sense of empathy in the reader. In the academic studies conducted to date, the scarcity of studies on the type of story draws attention. In particular, the lack of studies on contemporary storytellers has been one of the reasons that led us to this study. Nihan Kaya's storytelling contains significant themes in Turkish literature in terms of the subjects she deals with. The stories of Nihan Kaya, which successfully reflects the patriarchal social structure of the geography we live in, the social roles imposed on women, the innocence of children and contains autobiographical elements, will be analyzed with the method of story analysis.
