Gamma camera quality control tests at nuclear medicine

Abstract (EN)

The general aim for Nuclear Medicine is to diagnose and treat diseases. Gamma-ray emitting radioisotopes (such as 99mTc, 131I), in Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures are combined with a biomolecule suitable for imaging and delivered in a radiopharmaceutical form via the artery or vein to the patient. Gamma-emitting radioisotopes emit radiopharmaceutical gamma rays collected at the target site in the patient's body and these rays are detected by the gamma camera. In this way, abnormal activities in the desired area are detected. Image quality of devices used in Nuclear Medicine imaging processes plays an important role in the correct diagnosis of diseases. Image qualities of detector systems depend on the accuracy of the routine quality control tests. Therefore; daily, weekly or monthly quality control tests must be performed regularly by authorized health physicists. In order to control the image qualities of gamma cameras, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has established a standard for gamma cameras to determine that quality control tests should be performed. In this work periodic quality control tests are performed for Gamma Camera and it aimed to investigate correction methods.
