Abstract (EN)

Puzzolans are materials used to reduce the hydration heat of concrete, provide economy in cocnrete production and are widely used in concrete industry. Because of the benefits that pozzolans provide for concrete, the concrete industry shows close interest to all kinds of pozzolanic materials. Fly ash and blast furnace slag are pozzolans commonly used in concrete production. Rhyolite and trachyte are minerals under the name tras group. In experimental study, the various grindinğ time of fly ash, blast furnace slag, rhyolite and trachite how affected the puzzolanic activity of mortar samples was determined. As a result of this evaluation, the effect of the grinded rhyolite and trachyte minerals on the pozzolanic properties have been compared to the widely studied fly ash and blast furnace slag. In the study firstly, geological studies of rhyolite and trachyte have been performed. The grounded trachyte, rhyolite, fly ash and blast furnace slag which their geological characteristic were determined was replaced with CEM I 42.5 R type cement. The puzzolanic activities of the mortar produced using these additives were determined according to TS EN 196-5, TS 25 AND TS EN 450-1. As a result, both rhyolite and trachyte have been found to meet the limit values for pozzolanic activity prescribed by the relevant standards.
