Özet (EN)
The reign of Sultan Sanjar (1119-1157) was the period when the Seljuks reached their widest borders. Sanjar was the longest reigning ruler of the Great Seljuk Empire. He ruled the Seljuk Empire for a total of 60 years. Some historians have called his reign the "Second Empire". During his long reign, he expanded the borders, won many victories and annexed many states to the Seljuk dynasty. He put an end to the period of conquest that began after Melikshah and returned the state to its former glory and crowned it with new victories. He was called the invincible sultan until the Battle of Katwan, which was lost against the Karahitai. However, after the Battle of Katwan, although he regained his reputation for a short time, he lost all his reputation with the Oghuz Revolt. Having been defeated by the Oghuz, Sanjar was captured, mistreated and his state was the scene of great invasions and plunder. When he was captured by the Oghuz as a prisoner, khutbahs were read in his name in many places and his authority still continued. According to some sources, even after his death, khutbas continued to be read in his name. This was an unprecedented event in history. Although Sultan Sanjar and the Great Seljuk State withdrew from the stage of history as a result of the defeat of the nomadic Oghuz tribes, his authority continued for many years and became an example for the states that came after him.
