Assessing school gardens in accordance with the remarks of primary school 4th grade students and teachers: Ağri province sample

The essential objective of this paper; is to designate how the current position of school gardens understood by students and teacher when it comes to school concept. In this paper bearing characteristics of a qualitative research; compromises 40 fourth grade students selected with maximum qualification paradigm methods from intentional sampling methods from total 4 of which 3 of them as state schools, 1 private school with good-medium-poor primary schools in accordance with their socio-economic levels resident in Ağrı province in 2014-2015 academic year. Furthermore it was interviewed with 20 volunteer teachers who are officiated in these schools on their understanding when it comes to school. By adding 5 more primary schools to those attending to research of the total 9 school gardens benchmarked by using the check list prepared by Başbay, photos taken from necessary places and percentage and frequency values of data obtained taken and their charts and graphics were created. With thanks to that; it was fixed whether there are opportunities for play instruments, sports fields, rest areas, running fields, fountain, wall for security, flower beds, stands and similar means. As a consequence of the results obtained students in schools with bigger and well equipped school gardens it was observed that student are well satisfied with their school gardens. When views of teacher about school perception considered, it was observed that there is no universal opinion and there is only "building" judgment when it comes to school and school gardens fully forgotten and not involved within the education concept.Keywords: School garden, Students' views, Teachers' views
