Determining the Needs of Extensive Education in Turkey and the Expectation of the Society (Ankara case) The purpose of this study is to determine the reasons why the need for extensive education emerged and what the expectations of supplementary institutions are. To achieve this aim, the opinions of the teachers, the inevitable components of education, are of crucial importance. The importance of the opinions of the teachers peaks at the points where the drawbacks of the current educational system are pinpointed, the defects of the implementation are highlighted, and where the students are inadequate are illuminated. In order to obtain the teachers' ideas, a form of questionnaire and a form of interview were prepared and administered. The questionnaire was administered to the sample group and the data was compiled by qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The answers were analyzed with the assistance of an appropriate computer program. According to the results of the research, 55 % of teacher's surveyed stated extensive education is necessary. 62.3 % of them stated that if the central exams are removed, the need for extensive education will vanish. According to the results of the qualitative and quantitative analysis, It was understood that central exams have a great influence on extensive education. However, it was determined that these factors are increasing the need for extensive education: the exams are all multiple choice, the education based on multiple choice at schools is insufficient, and schools do not hold enough practice tests. There is also insufficient revision, crowded classrooms, intensive curricula, inadequate physical environments and teachers with insufficient knowledge. Furthermore, the teachers stated their expectations of extensive education as follows: quality education, quality teachers, the improvement of the students according to their abilities, to compensation for the students' schooling requirements, reinforcing the students' basic knowledge, teachers' fair behavior towards students, the more appropriate cost of extensive education, and the reinforcement of students' carrier and job prospects.
