Determination of the components affecting the reputation of principals

The aim of this research is to determine the components affecting the principals' reputation. For this purpose; the remarks and views of principles, teachers, students and parents of formal primary, secondary and high schools within the workgroup have been taken into consideration. The research data was gathered by means of a form with four open-ended questions. These open-ended questions are directed to the participants in written way and the data were gathered by this method. Descriptive analysis method has been used for the research data collected. The workgroup of the research consists of 171 teachers, 55 principals, 176 students and 135 parents within the scope of city center of Kütahya Province on 2014-2015 Education Year. According to the outputs of the research; a respected principal is qualified as, "objective, fair, honest and reliable, disciplined" by teachers; "fair, honest and reliable, objective, leader" by administrators; "disciplined, tolerant, cheerful and affectionate, sincere" by students; "disciplined, respectful, objective and fair" by parents. The components affecting the principles' reputation in a positive way are qualified as, "an effective communicator, supporting their shareholders, increasing the school success, wise of regulations" by teachers; "an effective communicator with shareholders, deciding with his shareholders, interfering the events and finding solutions and respecting the shareholders" by administrators; "an effective communicator, respecting the students' problems and caring them, finding solutions to these problems and having a balanced discipline" by students; "an effective communicator with shareholders, increasing the school success, caring the physical features of the school and finding solutions to the problems" by parents. The components affecting the principles' reputation in a negative way are qualified as, "favoritism, lack of management qualification, being unfair, being repressive" by teachers; "favoritism, non-effective communication, not respecting to the shareholders and their opinions, being unfair" by administrators;; "extreme disciplinary, being too nervy, not following the disciplinary rules and having harsh and offending way of communication" by students; "being careless and unconcerned and not caring the desires, favoritism, lack of management qualification, having harsh and offending way of communication," by parents. The suggestions to increase the principles' reputation are qualified as, "improving himself" by administrators and teachers; "caring for the extracurricular activities" by the students; "caring the unity of the school organism" by the parents.
