Abstract (EN)
In this study, the relationship between school counselors' automatic thoughts and perception of professional competence were examined. Moreover, automatic thoughts and perception of professional competence was discussed in terms of gender, age, school level, number of years spent in the profession and professional title. The sample of the study consists of volunteer school counselors attending the meetings organized by Adana Provincial Directorate of National Education and Guidance Research Centers in the spring term of the 2017-2018 academic year. Data were collected by using "Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire", "School Counselor Self- Efficacy Scale" and "Personal Information Form". When analyzing data; frequency, percentage, Shapiro Wilk, Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal Wallis- H test were used and to test hypotheses Spearman rank correlation coefficient technique was used. It was determined that there was a significant negative correlation between the level of automatic thought of school counselors and the sub-scale scores and total score of the school counselor self-efficacy scale. The findings suggest that school counselors who find themselves professional enough have less automatic thoughts.
