The relationship between humor styles and life satisfaction of school administrators

Abstract (EN)
The aim of the research is to examine the relationships between humor styles (self-enhancing humor, affiliative humor, self-defeating humor and aggressive humor) and life satisfaction of school administrators. With this purpose, humor styles and life satisfaction are investigated with seven independent variables; gender, marital status, age, kind of school, school level, seniority and perception of income level. The study is a relational survey model. The sample of study is included 250 school administrators 2012-2013 academic year in İstanbul, Atasehir. 83 of them are female, and the rest 167 are males. In this research, Humor Styles Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale were used to gain information related to the humor styles and life satisfaction of participants respectively. Furthermore, Personal Information Sheet? which is prepared by the researcher is also used to obtain information such as gender, marital status, age, kind of school, school level, seniority, and perception of income level. While analyzing the data, one way ANOVA, independent sample t-test and Kruskal?Wallis, one-way analysis of variance were applied to examine is there any significant difference points of humor styles and life satisfaction regarding to gender, marital status, age, kind of school, school level, seniority, and perception of income level. In order to define the source of differences Scheffe and LSD tests were used. The results indicated that there is a statistical relationship between sub-humor styles, affiliative humor, self-enhancing humor, aggressive humor and life satisfaction, conversely, there is not a statistical relationship between self-defeating humor and life satisfaction. In terms of demographical variables, there is a significant correlation between; Age and aggressive and self-defeating humor, Marital status and affiliative and self-enhancing humor, Age, kind of school, seniority, life satisfaction self-enhancing humor, Seniority, life satisfaction affiliative and self-enhancing humor, Perception of income level, life satisfaction, self-enhancing and aggressive humor. Finally, the outcomes were discussed and interpreted by using the related previous studies? results, and in the light of the results some proposals were offered.
