Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the affects of reading circle method to the reading comprehension skills and reading self sufficiency of 6th grade students. In accordance with this aim, for data collection and analyses, hypotheses verification and discussion of findings, pre-test and post-test and quasi experimental design were made use of with control group. The research was conducted on 42 6th grade students studying in a state school in Ministry of National Education in the city center of İzmir in 2018-2019 academic year as experimental and control group. It was identified that the academic successes in general and Turkish lesson successes in particular of experimental students are close. While reading circle method processes were followed with experimental group students, current Turkish lesson curriculum processes were followed with control group students. Experimental study lasted for 9 weeks. Reading comprehension test to evaluate reading comprehension and self perception scale-2 to evaluate reading self sufficiencies were applied to experimental and control group students. SPSS program was used in the analyses of quantiative data obtained in the study. The normality of the range was identified by using Saphiro-Wilk test and non-parametric tests were used in the study according to the result. As a result of statistical analyses on quantiatively obtained data in the study, it was determined that experimental students got higher Marks on reading comprehension tests and had higher averages. When the data of both experimental and control group students obtained from self-perception scale-2 was investigated, it was seen that the last score of the scale did not change meaningfully on the sub-factors like "progress", "observational comparison", "social feedback" and psychological states. According to these results, it can be said that reading circle method improves students' reading comprehension skills, but it is not efficient on increasing self reading sufficiency skills.
