The effect of lymphovascular invasion on surveillance of operated lung cancer

Abstract (EN)

Researches on the factors affecting the prognosis of lung cancer are ongoing. In this study, we analyze THE EFFECT OF LYMPHOVASCULAR INVASION ON SURVEILLANCE OF OPERATED LUNG CANCER. The research includes 111 cases that operated in our clinics with lung cancer. The 95.5% of the cases were male and 4.5% female. The average age was 62.24 ±8.44 years. The 64.9% of the case were still alive and 35.1% have lost. Considering the tumor types, the 61.3% (n=68) of the cases are squamous cell carcinomas, 30.6% (n=34) are adenocarcinoma and the 8.1% (n=9) are other tumor groups. Considering the resections, the 22.51% (n=25) of the cases was performed pneumonectomy, 12.6% (n=14) bilobectomy, 62.14% (n=69) are lobectomy and the rest 1.8% (n=2) are segmentectomy. The most common resection was right lower lobectomy and the least resection was right pneumonectomy. In pathologic staging, the 8.1% (n=9) of the cases were evaluated as stage 1A, 27.9% (n=31) as stage 1B, 18% (n=20) as stage 2A, 19.8% (n=22) as stage 2B, 20.7% (n=23) as stage 3A and 5.4% (n=6) as stage 3B and stage 4. When the relationship of lymphovascular invasion with age was evaluated; there was not significant statistical relationship between age and lymphovascular invasion. The presence of lymphovascular invasion is compared with tumor types, lymphovascular invasion have observed in 55% (n=19) of adenocarcinoma, 83.8% (n=57) of squamous cell carcinoma and 55.6% (n=5) of other cancer types. The relationship of lymphovascular invasion with factor T and have observed statistically significant. In evaluation of relationship of lymphovascular invasion with factor N, the direct correlation between lymphovascular invasion and factor N have observed and the results were statistically significant. Also, the relationship between lymphovascular invasion and the stages of the cases were statistically significant. In the 73% (n=81) of the cases, there was lymphovascular invasion and there was not the rest 27%. The effect of lymphovascular invasion on surveillance was not statistically significant. To summarize briefly the factors that affect lymphovascular invasion, the stage of tumor, pT, pN and the tumor types have statistically significant effects, but the age and gender have not. In conclusion, our study shows that there is no direct effect of lymphovascular invasion on surveillance. However, in considering the tumor stages and tumor types, the lymphovascular invasion has indirect effect. In squamous cell carcinoma, the lymphovascular invasion is significantly high. With increasing in tumor stage causes increase in lymphovascular involvement and decrease in survival rate. Lymphovascular invasion, which was more prominent in some tumor types, depending on the stage of the tumor is a risk factor affecting survival.
