Determnation of the water quality and pollution level of Akcaova creek

Abstract (EN)

Akçaova Stream, sourced from Kurşunçalı Forests of northwestern Ulubey Town, merged into Black Sea by divided two towns namely Altınordu and Perşembe along its course, has a 98 km2 precipitation area, with an average flow rate of 98 L / s, total length of 35 km and has 1090 m elevation. With the aim of determining water quality differentiations and contamination status at various times, the present study has initiated on May 2017 and ended up on April 218 after necessary determinations have been done. The field study has been carried out for 12 months, water samples have been taken from fixed stations monthly. Water quality parameters of total phosphorus [TP], soluble reactive phosphate [SRP], dissolved oxygen, dissolved oxygen saturation, pH, temperature, salinity, biological oxygen demand [BOD5], total alkalinity, total hardness, chlorophyll-a, total ammonia nitrogen [TAN], total dissolved solids [TDS], oxidation-reduction potential [ORP], nitrate, specific electrical conductivity and electrical conductivity were analyzed. The mean values of the obtained results were 10,99 mgL-1 dissolved oxygen, 104,73% oxygen saturation, pH 8,38, temperature 12,83 ° C, salinity 0,08 ppt, TDS 145,1 mgL-1, conductivity 177,90 μScm-1, total hardness 90,0 mgL-1, chlorophyll-a 2,13 μgL-1, specific conductivity of 226,06 μScm-1, ORP-113 mV, BOD5 1,75 mgL-1, total alkalinity of 78,6 mgL-1, TAN 0,3127 mg L-1, Nitrate 2,13 mg L-1, TP 0,288 mgL-1, SRP 0,054 mgL-1 and AKM 20,33 mg L-1. According to these findings, It has been decided that Akçaova Stream has water quality suitable for agriculture and support the aquatic life especially on uphill stations
