A review on compound sentences in Orhan Kemal's "Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde"

Language assumes the role of carrier of national culture by creating common rules. The determination of the phonetic, morphological and syntactic features of a language is important in determining the rules of the current language and transferring it to future generations in a healthy way. Literary works in the field of development of the current language are an important source of data. From this point of view, the work titled "Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde" was determined as the sample of the research and it was examined in terms of its syntactic features. The work is remarkable in terms of language and style as well as in terms of content. As a result of the literature review, a syntactic study on compound sentences on the novel titled "Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde" could not be determined. For this reason, it is aimed that the work to be done on this work will fill an existing gap in the field. The aim of the study is to identify the compound sentences in Orhan Kemal's aforementioned novel and to examine them in terms of their elements. The study covers what the sentence is in Turkish grammar, how the sentence classification is made in terms of structure, how the compound sentence is defined and how the compound sentences are classified based on the main grammatical sources. Based on these determinations, the style used by Orhan Kemal in the work has been evaluated. This study consists of four main parts. In the first chapter, Orhan Kemal's life, literary personality and works are introduced. A summary was given about the work named "Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde" and various opinions were mentioned. In the second part, sentence definitions and sentence classifications in terms of structure were determined and transferred based on the main Turkish grammar books. In the third chapter, what is a compound sentence according to the views of linguists in general, how it is classified, what points they combine and diverge in their classification are emphasized. In the fourth chapter, the compound sentences found in the work are classified in three parts as "next-to-none compound sentence, "ki'li" compound sentence and conditional compound sentence; These sentences were examined in terms of their elements and element sequences.
