Abstract (EN)
In parallel with the nowadays developing technologies, the usage of satellite images at forestry studies becomes more popular day by day. The aim of this study is; creating biomass equations for Fagus orientalis L. at the district of Alacadağ Forest Management Chiefdom which is sub department of Trabzon Regional Directorate of Forestry and determining the amount of biomass and the carbon storage capacity of the same biomass with remote sensing methods with the help of these equations. For this purpose 40 samples of Fagus orientalis L. were used from the area of Alacadağ Forest Management Chiefdom and the biomass of these samples were calculated. For determining the carbon storage capacity; for the beech tree species the biomass equations created at this thesis were used, for the oak tree species the equations created by Durkaya (1998) were used and then for calculating the carbon amount of these biomasses the conversion factor of Asan (2002) was used. For the Scotch pine tree species, the carbon equations of Yavuz et al. (2010) and for the Spruce tree species the carbon equations of Mısır et al. (2011) were used. For the other tree species in Turkey?s forests, the BEF1 coefficient of Asan (2002) was used. According to these carbon categories; at the research area, the supervised classification was done from the satellite images of Landsat ETM +, SPOT-5 and Quickbird-2. As a result of the done examination, the ordered accuracy rate of Kappa statistics was found: 0.8762, 0.7524 and 0.7429 also it was found that Landsat ETM 7 + gives the most accurate values about carbon storage capacity.
