Socio-economic status of small scale / artisanal fisheries in Middle and Eastern Black Sea Regions

In this study it's aimed to investigate the problems of the fishermen who involved in small-scale / artisanal fisheries and their socio-economic status in 7 cities (Sinop, Samsun, Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, ve Artvin) on the central and eastern Black Sea coast line. In accordance with this purpose surveys consisting 46 open ended and closed ended questions were distributed to subjects and also obtained information from face to face meetings. Data were obtained and analyzed from a total of 168 surveys, stated, socio- economic status of fisherman, problems related to fisheries and recommendations that will help to solve the problems. The age of the fisherman was found between 17-74, and their proportion of education levels were 48.21% elementary school, 20.83% secondary school, 23.21% high school, 5.32% university, 1.79% uneducated but lettered, 0.60% not lettered. 39.90% of the fisherman chose this profession because of their fathers, 20.83% of them perform it because of joblessness. It's determined 11.90% of the fishermen have no social security, 60.18% of them bounded SGK and 14.86% BAĞKUR. 86.31% of the fishermen are married and 9.52% of them married never before. 86.31% of them have lesser than 1000 TL income per mount, and the rest have between 1000-1500 TL income per mount.
