Abstract (EN)

Çarşamba Town has a history spanning all the way back to the 4000 BC. First archeological findings that shed light to Çarşamba's history belongs to Late Iron Age and is retrieved from the remainders of a castle in Garpu district in the vicinity of Salipazari-Konakören Village. The area is known to be settled and inhabited by the trader Miletus sailors in 700 BC after Hittites and Phrygians. In this time period the area went under Scythian control. Even though it is not archeologically proven, it is most likely that before the Scythian control two groups had loved there, these groups are Kaskians and Cimmerian. Contrary to no archeological findings of Kaskians or Cimmerian near Çarsamba and its vicinity some documents from the Scythian are found. This way the existence of Turks in Çarsamba dating back to hundreds of years. Danişmendli Beylic is known to rule Çarşamba and its vicinity after the Battle of Manzikert. The oldest remnants of Turk-Islamic rule in the area which went under Sultanate of Rum control after Danişmentli Beylic belongs to the Seljuks. The most important ones being Gökçeli and Sheikh Habil Mosques which are still preserved. Another Beylic which take part in the control of the area after the Sultanate of Rum is Taceddinoğulları. Some remnants belonging to Taceddinoğulları Beyligi which also ruled the Çarşamba village and its vicinity are Ordu Village Mosque, a Buk'a (places allocated for waqf use) which is found on records, remnants of a castle, and a mausoleum for Hasan Bey which was later restored. After Taceddinoğulları Beylic Çarşamba and its vicinity went under the control of Ottoman Empire by campaigns and referred to as Arım District. The issues above summarised briefly concerning Çarşamba and its vicinity in terms of middle age Turk presence and architectural buildings are the main study of this thesis. In this sense written sources about middle ages of the area are presented. Following that architectural buildings in the area are inspected on-site and their current situations are identified, architectural plan and building ornaments are examined in detail and their place in Turk-Islamic architecture is tried to be located. All the data about the study are supported by written sources, archives and photographs.
