Abstract (EN)

Ahlat is one of the most important cities of the medieval Turkish-Islamic world. Thanks to its geographical location and fertile lands, it has become one of the political, economic and cultural centers of the Armenian region. The city is still standing with its thousands of years of historical and cultural heritage, with its magnificent monuments and the largest cemetery belonging to the Islamic period. In addition, it has a special importance in our history as it is one of the first Islamic cities in Anatolia and serves as a base for Turks to enter Anatolia. Therefore, Ahlat is an important example in understanding the physical structure and characteristics of the medieval Islamic city. In this study, which was prepared considering the importance of the city, it is aimed to contribute to the studies to be made on the place of Ahlat in Turkish-Islamic history and medieval Islamic urbanism. With the thesis titled "Ahlat in the Middle Ages", the location of the city and its political geography were discussed and its situation in the Middle Ages was tried to be explained in all its aspects. The political history of Ahlat and the transformations of the city were examined by following a chronological order. In addition, a general framework has been created by revealing the social, cultural and economic aspects of Ahlat. In this sense, the artifacts unearthed as a result of the excavations in the city and the architectural monuments that are still standing are also included.
