The effect of teaching material based on the common knowledge consruction model on the gifted students' understanding of concepts: "acid-base"

In the case of non-meaningful learning and getting knowledge by rote cause to miss the point and alternative conceptions and misunderstanding of concepts that cannot be used properly in the daily life so teaching concept gets importance. In this research, it was aimed to investigate the level of perception and misconception of 8th grade gifted students' concepts of acids and bases and to determine the effect of the activities based on the Common Knowledge Construction Model (CKCM) on the concepts under investigation. In this study, action research method was used and activity about acid-base concepts based on CKCM consisting of four stages was developed. This study was conducted to 29 gifted-students (8th grade) attending at Dr. M. Hilmi Güler Science and Arts Center. The data of this study was gathered by using Questions of Explore Preconceptions (QEP), Acid-Base Concept Test (ABCT), Assocation Test of Acid-Base with Daily Life (AABDLT), Chemistry Lesson Attitude Scale (CLAS), Material and Activity Evaluation Questionnare (MAEQ), learning stations Question and Observation Forms (QOF). ABCT, AABDLT tests and CLAS scale were applied before and after the treatment. The points of ABCT, AABDLT tests and CLAS scale was analyzed by the dependent sample t-test. The data analyzed conceptually by the help of ABCT and AABDLT offered as tables. At the end of the study, it was seen that gifted students have alternative concepts before activities and after activities that are partly corrected by the help of those activities that could not be effective to correct all alternative conceptions. Some suggestions were made to the researchers and educators according to the results obtained from this study.
