The study of the behaviours of teaching leadership of the secondary school principals (Gaziantep sample)

This study aims to analyse the behaviours of teaching leadership of the secondary school principals based on opinions of their own and teachers'. It is a descriptive research applied to study whether the behaviours of teaching leadership of secondary school principals or change according to some demographic variables (such as gender, age, marital status, educational level, year of seniority, type of school and the number of seminars-courses in the field of teaching leadership). The population of the study includes school managers and teachers instructing in public or private secondary schools located in Sehitkamil district Gaziantep city depended on National Education Ministry in 2014-2015 education year. The samples of the study were chosen with random sampling method from the school managers and teachers in public or private secondary schools in Şehitkamil National Education in 2014-2015 education year. The sample of study group comprise of 150 teachers and 100 head teachers teaching in secondary schools of ministry of education in Şehitkamil province of Gaziantep in 2014 – 2015 education year. In the study, the scale of "teaching leadership of school managers", developed by Şişman (1997) and the dependent variable of the study was used as data collecting tool to determine the behaviours of teaching leadership. For other independent variables of the study, "Personal Information Form", developed by the researcher himself, was used. As a result of the analysis of study data, it was determined that the most exhibited behaviours of teaching leadership was determining and sharing the aims of school and the least one the secondary school managers displayed was to support and help to improve the teachers.
