Examination of poems in the course books of 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders in terms of quality and quantity

In this study, the poems in the course books of 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders are examined in terms of relevance for students, construction of contents and textuality criterion. The main aim of the study is to determine the importance of poems in terms of quality. In elementary school, during the process of gaining awareness about themselves, it is students' natural right to encounter good poems. Literary texts have great importance to achieve the goals of teaching Turkish language. It is by means of literary texts to address the world of students' feelings and thoughts. Among all the literary texts, poems are of higher importance in their emotional, spiritual and linguistic development. In our study named "Examination of poems in the course books of 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders in terms of quality and quantity" it is aimed to examine the poems in Turkish course books in terms of some certain criteria and to determine the relevant poems for elementary children. This study consists of four parts. We touch on introduction; theoretical information about literature, poems and children poems; and the subjects of textuality and content construction in the first part. In the second part, the method of the study is explained. In the third part, the poems in elementary school Turkish course books are examined in terms of relevance for students, consistency, coherence, content construction and other textuality criteria. In the last part, not only the results obtained in the light of the findings but also the discussions and recommendations are explained.
