The views of teachers about the problems in secondary school mathematics teaching

The aim of this study is to reveal the problems of mathematics learning in secondary school from the point of view mathematics teachers. The study group of consists of twelve maths teachers working in Burdur Province. For this study, case study method one of the qualitative research methods is used. The data in the study were obtained with approximately 30 minutes of interviews using the semi-structured observation form created by the researcher. The interviews were recorded with the permission of the participant and then turn into text. The qualitative data obtained from the interviews were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. The result of this study, the problems experienced by teachers is separated into six. These are problems caused by physical conditions of schools, problems caused by students, problems caused by teachers, problems caused by education and examination system, problems caused by administrative issues and problems caused by administrative staff. According to results, while teachers encounter less problems arising from the learning environment and teachers, it is observed that most of them have problems arising from students, parents and the education and examination system. The findings reveal the problems experienced in middle school mathematics teaching. Key terms: Secondary school mathematics teachers, Mathematics teaching, Teachers
