Middle school students' attainment levels of the values in the fifth grade social studies curriculum (A case from Afyonkarahisar)

The purpose of this survey study is to determine middle school students' attainment levels of the values in the fifth grade social studies curriculum. Data were collected in the 2012-12 academic year from randomly selected 785 middle school students from primary schools located in Afyonkarahisar through the "Fifth Grade Social Studies Student Survey" developed by Yigittir (2009). Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze the data. Results indicate that the value middle school students attain at the highest level is sensitivity to historical heritage while it is sensitivity to natural environment which is attained at the lowest level. Furthermore, middle school students' attainment levels of values in the fifth grade social studies curriculum do not differ on their gender while they (except of sensitivity to historical heritage) differ on their paternal level of education.
