Examination of secondary school students' choosing vocational and technical high schools

This study; according to the opinions of students, teachers and parents, it aims to determine the perceptions of secondary school and imam hatip secondary school students about vocational and technical high schools. The research is a descriptive study conducted in the general survey model. In 2021-2022 academic year 717 students in public secondary schools and imam hatip secondary schools in Şahinbey district, 304 teachers working in these schools and among the parents of the students 542 parents participated in the study. In collecting data developed by the researcher and his advisor "Secondary School Students' Opinions Scale on Vocational and Technical High School", "Secondary School Teachers' Opinions Scale on Vocational and Technical High School" and "Secondary School Parent Survey Form Regarding Students' Preference for Vocational and Technical High School" used. The data were analyzed with the SPSS program. As a data analysis technique percentage, frequency, t-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and LSD in multiple comparisons technique was used.It has been concluded that students have hesitations about choosing vocational high schools and that a significant portion of the students do not see themselves as students who will go to vocational high schools. According to the teachers, it was concluded that there was not enough promotion in directing secondary school students to vocational and technical high schools, trips and vocational guidance activities were not sufficient. It was concluded that the parents participating in the research saw vocational high schools as the last type of school to which they would direct their children, and it was difficult for students attending this type of school to pass the university exam. In the research, organizing trips to vocational high schools for students, domain experts giving seminars on vocational guidance; It has been suggested to provide in-service training on vocational guidance for teachers and to promote vocational and technical high schools to parents.
