The organizational commitment levels of the secondary school teachers

The aim of this research is to determine the organizational commitment levels of the teachers and administrators working at the secondary schools and to figure out whether these levels differ between/among different variables. The model of the research is screening. The universe of the study is comprised of the secondary school teachers and administrators working at formal and private schools in the district of Gaziemir located in the province of İzmir in 2015-2016 school year. For the quantitative research, any kind of sampling wasn't used; a census survey was carried out instead. The sample of the qualitative research is comprised of 24 teachers and administrators. "Personal Data Form", "Organizational Commitment Questionnaire" and "Interview Form Related to the Organizational Commitments of the Administrators and Teachers" were used to collect the data for the research. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-Test, ANOVA and LSD Test were used to analyze the data. The statistical analysis of research were carried out through SPSS programme. The data of the qualitative research were analyzed through the content analysis technique. The results of the research are: The organizational commitment levels of administrators and teachers don't differ in terms of age, marital status, tenure and school size while they differ in terms of gender, tenure at school, branch, educational level, employment type, residence and socioeconomic levels of the parents in certain components. The organizational commitment levels of the administrators and teachers differ significantly in terms of the school type and teachers' perception of the adequacy of their schools' physical conditions in all components and overall scale. According to the qualitative research organizational factors are more determinative on the organizational commitment than personal factors.
