Examining secondary school students attitudes to physical education and sports course(The case of Düzce province)

The aim of this study is to examine secondary school students attitudes to physical education and sports courses in terms of different variables. Survey model, which is one of the quantitative research models, was used in the study. The universe of the research consists the students studying at secondary schools schools in the central district of Düzce province, and the sample of the research is composed of 800 total -416 female and 384 male- students studying at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of the secondary schools in the central district of Düzce province in 2020-2021 academic year. In order to collect data personal information form and 'Beden Eğitimi Dersi Tutum' scale which developed by Güllü and Güçlü (2009) were applied to the participants in the study. The obtained data were analyzed by statistical package program. Descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, standard deviation), Independent Sample T Test and One Way ANOVA tests were used to analyze the data. The results were evaluated according to the significance level of p <.05. After the research, it was observed that there is a significant difference between students' attitudes to physical education and sports course and sporting habbit and also equipment proficiency. According to these results, improving physical facilities and organizing sport activities will contribute to the development of positive attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education and sports lessons can be presented as a suggestion of this study.
