Analysis of space in Ottoman science novels

Like many other innovations, relations with the Western world brought the literary genres of utopia and science fiction to Ottoman literature. Utopias and science fiction, which is another work of fiction and imagination of the future, are intertwined due to their similarities. For this reason, these literary genres, which include narratives with scientific content and science-based narratives, are grouped under the title of "Fenni Edebiyat". Utopias are narratives that are defined by using concepts such as "no place", "non-existent place", "imaginary place", "imaginary country", where the ideas conveyed through "space" or the political and social thought and ideal to be conveyed find existence in a space. If we look at examples of utopias, the social structure that is reconsidered and evaluated begins with representations of the city, new living conditions and perceptions of space. Any product that deals with space is also related to architecture. The study examines the emergence of the utopian and science fiction genres, their development, their reflections on Eastern culture, and the process of their existence in Ottoman literature. Then, the works entitled Fenni Bir Roman Yahut Amerika Doktorları, Rüyada Terakki ve Medeniyet-i İslamiyeyi Rüyet and Başka Dünyalarda Canlı Mahlûkat Varıdır? are analyzed. These works were selected for analysis and their spatial narratives were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative research methods.
