Investigation of special education teachers' attitudes and views about the visual arts review course

In today?s world, where education is based on the cooperation of science and art, the number of individuals with special needs is increasing radically. Teaching of art is used in special education as well as general education. Since the contribution of the Visual Arts lessons is obvious on the development and education of individuals with special needs, the need for consideration of the views of special education teachers? about the subject is emerged. General aim of the research is to ascertain special education teachers? attitudes about the Visual Arts lesson. The universe of the research is special education teachers and the sample is all special education teachers working at public and private primary schools of Ministry of National Education, special education institutions and rehabilitation centers in Trabzon city centre. Semi-structured interview form, personal information form including demographic properties and attitude scale towards Visual Arts lesson have been used in the research as the tool for collecting data and 170 special education teachers have been reached in the research. This survey has been designed by the researcher after views of professionals have been taken into consideration and a literature scanning has been made. The reliability of the scale has been calculated 0,967 Alpha and SPSS (The Statistical Packet For Social Sciences) 15.0 program is used for all analysis. Frequency (f), percentage (%) and standard deviation (S), t-test and one-way variant analysis (ANOVA) have been used to state findings. As a result of the analysis, it is understood that the attitudes of the teachers of the special education towards the lessons of Visual Arts training are affirmative. In addition, it is ascertained that the differentiation is discussed according to the various variables that are determinant and effective in the attitudes of the teachers toward the said lesson and lower dimension of the attitudes. At the end of the research paper, some solutions are suggested by the researcher.
