Examining special education teachers' sports awareness and intolerance of uncertainty levels

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the sports awareness and intolerance of uncertainty levels of teachers working in private educational institutions operating in Elazığ province. This is a descriptive study, and a relational screening model was used in its conduct. The research population consisted of 340 students studying in private educational institutions affiliated with the Elazığ Provincial Directorate of National Education during the 2023-2024 academic year, while the sample consisted of 210 teachers working in these institutions during the academic year. A personal information form, a sports awareness scale, and an intolerance of uncertainty scale, designed for the purpose of the study, were used as data collection tools. Percentages and frequencies of variables were calculated using SPSS 25.00. Parametric tests (t-test and ANOVA) were applied to ensure that the data met normality assumptions. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between the scales. Statistical analysis using the obtained data set a significance level of p<0.05. The participants' general awareness levels were found to be at a moderate-to-high level. Males, young individuals, single individuals, those actively involved in sports, and those who exercise had higher sports awareness. Variables such as economic status, educational background, and teaching specialty did not have a significant effect on awareness. The participants' general intolerance levels were at a moderate level. Married individuals, individuals with children, those with chronic illnesses, and those in low-income groups experienced higher levels of anxiety about uncertainty. Individuals involved in sports and those who exercise regularly were found to be more resilient to uncertainty.
