Abstract (EN)

Between 2002 and 2012, 52 patient were operated from closed isolated patella fracture in Akdeniz University Medical Faculty Hospital of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department . 23 of these patients whom were followed completely done, were researched retrospectively. Patients functional status were evaluated by Böstman scoring form. AO classification was used for preoperative evaluation of the fracture and the degree of postoperative PTF arthrosis was utilized by Iwano classification. The effect of patellofemoral arthrosis seen at the patients treated with tension band technique on preoperative functional status were researched statically. There were 10 female and 13 male patients in the study. The overage age was 48,4±15,3(21-70) year.13 patients (%57) injured the left patella and 10 patients (%43) injured right patella . The mean follow-up ranged between 25 and 124 months (48. 2 ±12,3). 5 of the patella fractures (22%) extra-articular (34-A1), 18 to intra-articular (88%), respectively. 13 Intra-articular fractures (56%) 34-C1 and 5 (22%) was 34-C3.The functional results were excellent in 16 patients(%70) , good in 6 patients (%26), poor in 1 patient(%4).At follow up evaluation , there were type 1 PFA at 5 patients (%21), type 2 PFA at 5 patients (%21), type 3 PFA at 8 patients (%37) and type 4 PFA at 5 patients. (%21). There was correlation between fracture type and PFA severity but there were no statistically significant correlation between type of fracture and functional results, functional results and degree of PFA ( p≤ 0.05 ). Radiologic union were detected in all patients. The most common complications were implant irritation , migration and implant failure
