Psychoanalytic literature theory is the application of methods of psychoanalysis, which was founded by Sigmund Freud, in literary works. Psychoanalysis, which is a method of psychotherapy, tries to find out the relations between unconscious elements of mental processes of the patients. In psychoanalytic literature theory, the methods of analysis are directed from the work of art to the author and from the author to the work of art. It is more consistent to take the work of art as a starting point in the psychoanalytic analysis of literary works. The works of Peyami Safa, one of the Republic Period Turkish novelists, is quite suitable to be analyzed in psychoanalytic terms. He is an author that concentrated deeply on the psychology of the characters in his novels. This study has analyzed the novels of Peyami Safa in psychoanalytic terms. In this context, the ideas of many psychoanalyists, especially Freud, Jung and Adler were taken into consideration. The novels of Peyami Safa were studied in terms of stream of consciousness, the unconscious, internal monologues, leitmotivs, archetypes, factors of conflict, personality disorders, love, erotism, Oedipus Complex, Electra Complex and existantial psychoanalysis.
