Coating with HARDOX450+FEW of AISI1020 steel surfaces by using plasma transfer arc welding method and determination of wear resistances

Abstract (EN)

In the first chapter of this thesis, types of coating and coating, plasma transfer arc welding method and paramaters, types of wear and wear, hardox steel, the literature review on the subject are given. In the second chapter, the importance of experimental study and experimental studies are presented in detail. In the third chapter, the experimental results are given and discussed. In the fifth chapter, the general results obtained are summarized. In this study; Hardox450+FeW metallic powder was coated with plasma transfer arc (PTA) welding technique on the surface of AISI1020 steel by using different powder ratio parameter. Coating morphologies were investigated by Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS), X-RD and Microhardness analysis. Abrasive wear characteristics were determined by pin-on disc test method. After the abrasion tests, abrasion wear rates were obtained by determined the mass losses of the samples. In addition, SEM analyzes of the worn surfaces were performed. In the coating microstructures of low powder ratios, it was observed that the arms of the dendritic structure are clearly obtained. The highest hardness values were obtained in surface alloyed with Hardox450+25% FeW powder. Parallel to the increasing amount of powder, it was observed that the microhardness increased due to the formation of hard compounds. Maximum wear resistance was seen on the surface alloyed with Hardox450+ 25% FeW powder. The wear resistance of all samples developed with rise of hardness due to increased FeW powder and formation of the carbide compound. It was found that the adhesive wears occurred on the worn surfaces of Hardox450+FeW alloyed coatings during abrasion, and as a result of severe plastic deformation, there were numerous craters, shallow and deep narrow grooves and break off residues in the surface morphology.
