Osteoporosis prevalence and risk factors in postmenopausal women

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in a descriptive cross-sectional type to determine the prevalence and risk factors of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. The research consisted of a total of 301 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who were selected by random sampling method, one of the improbable sampling methods, between October 2019 and December 2019 at Çorum Hitit University Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic. Socio-Demographic Information Collection Form (SDICF)" and "Osteoporosis Risk Factors Form (ORFF)" were used to collect data. Chi-square test, t test/Mann Whitney-U test, One Way ANOVA/Kruskall Wallis tests were used for the evaluation of the data, Tukey's HSD test/Mann Whitney U test was used to determine the differences between the groups in these tests. The prevalence of postmenopausal osteoporosis was found to be 29.2% in our study. In women; A positive correlation was found between advanced age, menarche age, number of pregnancies, smoking and caffeine consumption, presence of chronic disease, continuous drug use and postmenopausal osteoporosis, and a negative relationship between education level, calcium and vitamin D supplement use and postmenopausal osteoporosis. In addition, it was determined that the place of residence and marital status affected postmenopausal osteoporosis (p<0,05). Key Words: Postmenopause, osteoporosis, risk factors.
