The relationship between psychopathology and psychological resilience in individuals admitted to a psychiatric outpatient clinic: The mediating role of loneliness

In this study, the relationship between psychological resilience, psychological symptoms and loneliness levels in outpatient adults with psychiatric disorders was examined. "Sociodemographic Information Form", Connor-Davidson Psychological Resilience Scale", "Social-Emotional Loneliness Scale" and "Brief Symptom Inventory" were applied to 162 participants. In the study, the mediating role of loneliness in the relationship between psychological symptoms and psychological resilience levels of individuals was examined. In addition, the differences in the sub-dimensions of psychological resilience, psychological symptoms and loneliness were examined in terms of sociodemographic variables of the participants. Pearson correlation, multiple regression analysis and mediating role analysis were applied in the study in which quantitative analyzes were conducted. Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were applied for comparison analysis. According to the findings of the study, a negative and significant relationship was found between psychological symptoms and psychological resilience levels of individuals with psychiatric disorders and receiving treatment. In addition, a positive and significant relationship was found between the participants' psychological symptoms and loneliness scores. When the findings of the mediating role analysis were examined, it was found that there was a significant relationship between psychological symptoms and psychological resilience and loneliness scores had a partial mediating effect. According to the findings of the comparison analyses, significant differences were found in the scores of loneliness and psychological symptom dimensions in terms of marital status, gender, employment status and psychological disorders. The results obtained are expected to contribute to the psychosocial interventions to be developed to increase the psychological resilience levels of individuals with psychiatric disorders and to the studies to be conducted with different sample groups.
