Psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacy and psychological needs satisfaction

This research aims to investigate the relationship between psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacies and their satisfaction of psychological needs. The method of the research is based on correlational model and convenient sampling was used to collect data from 350 psychological counselors who work at pre-school institutions, primary, secondary and high schools along with Guidance Research Centers in Turkey. Personal Information Form, Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale and Needs Satisfaction Scale were used as the main data collection tools in the research. For the analysis of collected data, Pearson correlation, multiple regression, and MANOVA were performed. The results of the research suggest that there is a significant positive relationship between psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacies and their satisfaction of psychological needs. As a whole with its sub-dimensions, psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacy explains 22% of their satisfaction of psychological need variance. Moreover, the results have displayed that the psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacies and their satisfaction of psychological needs differ according to professional seniority and the number of participation in professional development programs. On the other hand, it has also been found that psychological counselors' counseling self-efficacies and their satisfaction of the psychological needs do not vary according to the type of institution they work at and the number of students they are responsible for.
