Abstract (EN)

Predictability of Psychological Consultants' Helping Styles With A-Type Personality Features and Emotional İntelligence This research aims to examine the relationship between the characteristics, the levels of emotional intelligence of psychological consultants and their ways of helping styles and the role of their characteristics and emotional intelligences in predicting their way of helping. This research also targets at examining whether psychological consultants? ways of helping people diversify in terms of some demographic variables (gender, in which educational level they work, duration of service, educational career and the most efficient and applicable approach) . The study group of the research consists of 181 psychological consultants who have been accessible and are currently employed in Trabzon in the Academic year of 2010-2011, out of 227 psychological consultants. In the research, Demographic Information Form, prepared by the researcher, The Most Preferred Cognitive Styles Inventory (Arıcıoğlu and Korkut-Owen, 2010), A Type Personality Scale (Durak-Batıgün and Şahin, 2011), and Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale have been applied on the students. To analyze the data collected, descriptive statistic techniques, independent t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis H test, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and hierarchal regression analysis technique have been employed. As a result of this research, in A type personality and A type personality characteristics sub dimensions, a positive relationship has been determined between work obsession and dialectic systematic style, obsession of speed and concrete situational style, obsession of time and sensory-motor style. Besides, sensory-motor style and emotional intelligence, out of the sub dimensions of emotional intelligence; being aware of the feelings, managing the feelings, self-motivation, managing relationships, abstract style and emotional intelligence, out of the sub dimensions of emotional intelligence; being aware of the feelings, self-motivation, managing relationships, concrete situational style and out of the sub dimensions of emotional intelligence; being aware of the feelings, are significantly related in a positive way. Furthermore, it has been detected that the ways of helping style of A type personality do not predict anything whereas emotional intelligence is a significant indicator of all styles of helping. In this research, it has been seen that regarding helping styles, there has been significant differences among gender, in which educational level they work, duration of service, educational career. Moreover it has been concluded that helping styles doesn?t differentiate according the most efficient and applicable approach. The results have been discussed in the light of the literature and some suggestions have been put forward based on the results.
