A proposal for deep reading of architectural narratives on rem koolhaas (1977-2024): A computational text analysis model

This study aims to examine the architectural discourse of Rem Koolhaas, between 1977 and 2024, through secondary sources (articles, conference papers, editorial writings, etc.) indexed in the WoS database that were not authored by Koolhaas himself. The WoS database was chosen for its reliable, high-quality, and globally recognized data. Koolhaas was chosen as the subject of this research because of the presence of his critical and influential architectural discourses, which generate original concepts and encourage debate and inquiry. The primary objective of the study is to identify narrative codes shaping Koolhaas's architectural thinking and analyze them using a computational text analysis model. To this end, computational text analysis methods were employed to understand architectural narratives about Rem Koolhaas. Coding was carried out using the ATLAS.ti 25, and content analysis was conducted with the AntConc corpus analysis software. Using the proposed computational text analysis model, texts about the architect were interpreted within the framework of four main themes, determined through six selected words (form, delirious, junkspace, generic, bigness, metropolitan). As a result, the proposed model provided a systematic, replicable process for mapping architectural discourse.
