Color was scientifically quantified by Newton's glass prism experiment. The use of color in prehistoric times is based on cave paintings, and people living in the prehistoric period tried to obtain color from nature in order to strengthen their expression in the paintings they made on cave walls. Later, many scientists wanted to develop their own color theory, and they strengthened their theories with their studies on color and transferred information that would be very useful to the world of science and our lives. Le Blon dealt with the chemical color and Goethe's color theory was accepted by the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) under the name of color studies. Goethe, while examining the dark and light aspects of color, also touched upon its psychological effects. He has made a great contribution to the world of science and art. The artists of the period started to produce by being influenced by Goethe in the use of color. The scientific clarity of color has made great gains in the art world.In this study, the physics, chemistry, psychological and physiological aspects of color were examined in detail and how it was handled in many fields of science and comparisons were made between the theories of scientists who were interested in these fields. In the historical process, the harmonic situations and proportions of colors in the field of art, and the psychological feelings and expressive color preferences in the production of paintings have been examined through examples.
